Glossop man Colin has managed to quit the habit thanks to our dedicated support.

Colin, aged 72, said:

“After several attempts at giving up smoking I was referred by my GP to the Targeted Lung Health Check programme.

“They suggested I have a lung scan which was clear for lung cancer but highlighted emphysema.”

After meeting with a Specialist Nurse Colin was advised to stop smoking and was referred to Glossop Leisure Centre to take part in our Live Better Life Derbyshire 12 week stop smoking programme.

Colin met with his advisor Suzanne who asked about any issues he might be having that could prevent him from successfully stopping smoking.

He revealed that he had been under considerable amounts of family and financial pressure as well as providing support for his children to help them deal with their drug dependency issues.

But a new start in Glossop gave Colin the chance to try and stop smoking again.

He said:

“I moved to Glossop and started life with my new partner, and I feel happy and settled.

“I still give my daughter support which at times is still very stressful, but I have a quieter home life now. This helps in some way to be able to cope with the stress better.

“With Suzanne’s help and support I have now been ‘smoke free’ for six months and have no intention to start smoking again.

“I even walked straight through duty free at Lanzarote airport – the first time in 22 years without buying cigarettes – instead I bought myself a watch!”
